The
National Tax Service (NTS) of Korea started the test run of the tax payment
service through convenient stores on Sept. 23, 2009 to help taxpayers pay taxes
even after the operating hours of banks and financial companies.

The
test-run service is provided to customers of Shinhan Bank and is available at
4,400 FamilyMart stores, which are equipped with special readers to read tax
payment notices issued from the NTS.

After
the pilot run period, the NTS is planning to operate the service in full force
by December this year. With the full rollout, customers of all banks will be
able to use the service at about 10,000 convenient store chains of FamilyMart,
GS25, 7-ELEVEN and others.

Since
the eligible methods for tax payment is account transfer, cash or credit card
will not be accepted at the stores.
