Tax Audit Performance 2008

Considering
the difficult economic conditions last year, the NTS has temporarily suspended
regular tax audits since October 2008 as part of its efforts to lighten taxpayers’
burden. As a result, the number of tax audits conducted in 2008 decreased by
23 percent to 14,838 compared with 2007.

While
suspending regular tax audits, the NTS increased the number of investigations
on tax violations by 2 percent to 565 compared with 2007.



Meanwhile,
488 simplified tax audits, mainly as a form of consulting, were conducted on
SMEs to reduce their burdens and allow them to focus on business activities.
