The National Tax Service (NTS) of Korea began the 「Cell Phone Authorization」 service on September 15, 2009 to allow taxpayers to have easy and convenient access to the NTS Hometax website, www.hometax.go.kr.
With the 「Cell Phone Authorization」 service started, taxpayers can transmit their authorization certificate stored in their cellular phone to their PC whenever they access the Hometax website.
The mobile authorization service is aimed at improving taxpayer convenience in using the Hometax service. Since the authorization certificate can be wired to their PC, taxpayers are able to use the Hometax service in a PC that is connected to the Internet without keeping the certificate in their PC.
Using cell phone certificates will also increase taxpayer security on cyberspace. Certificates will be safe from any possible hacking because they are stored not in PCs but in cell phones.
